The White Noise Trio reimagines the classic jazz trio, expanding its boundaries through atmospheric, cinematic compositions.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as EST, The Bad Plus, and Avishai Cohen, the trio blends open improvisation with intricate, carefully crafted arrangements. The result is a distinctive sound that carries the audience through an emotionally rich musical journey. By turns fragile and introspective, then powerful and driving, their live performances unfold with a rare sense of tension, release, and spontaneity.

Based in Berlin, the three musicians came together despite—perhaps because of—their vastly different musical backgrounds.

Double bassist Florian Dupuy began his musical path in the classical world, first studying the cello and later performing with orchestras in Paris, Cambridge, Geneva, and Berlin. Drummer Robin Hartkopf, meanwhile, was drawn to the complex, high-energy grooves of progressive rock, gently defying the expectations of his father and grandfather, both jazz drummers. Pianist Stefan Merz brings yet another perspective, regularly performing House- and Techno-driven live sets in Berlin clubs, where his fascination with harmonic minimalism and evolving textures took shape.

After nearly a decade of close collaboration, the trio has forged a deep, intuitive musical connection and discovered a shared language rooted in jazz. Their concerts resonate not only with dedicated jazz audiences but also with listeners drawn to emotional depth, sonic exploration, and dynamic interplay.
